My Reading Journal 4 Group I 陳怡婷

In this two weeks, I read"Charlotte's Web" almost half. This book begins when John Arable's sow gives birth to a litter of piglets, and he discovers one of them is a runt and decides to kill it. However, his 9 year old daughter Fern begs him to let it live. Therefore her father gives it to Fern as a pet, and she names the runt Wilbur.

Wilbur lives with Fern for a few weeks and then is sold to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman. Although Fern visits him at the Zuckermans' farm as often as she can, Wilbur gets lonelier day after day. Eventually, a warm and soothing voice tells him that she is going to be his friend. The next day, he wakes up and meets his new friend: Charlotte, the gray spider.

When the old sheep tells Wilbur that he is going to be killed at Christmas, he turns to Charlotte for help. Charlotte has the idea of writing words in her web extolling Wilbur's excellence (such as "SOME PIG"), reasoning that if she can make Wilbur sufficiently famous, he will not be killed.

I can never imagine that a pig will give all its true heart to a spider which looks terrible and dangerous. Likewise, the spider returns a true-hearted promise to the pig which may not have future at all . Though they're different from each other, it won't be the gap between their friendship. Their friendship cross all the boundaries, and is built by two hearts' harmony. Now, I have many thoughts about my friends. I never think much about the meaning of friendship, but now, I have new idea. I'll try to treat my friends with my true heart more than before.
