My reading journal 6 A組 曹凱倫

My reading journal 6

I have finished this book, "eat, pray, love".

This book talked about pleasure, devotion and balance.

Last theme is balance; Liz is in Bali and with the old man, Ketut Liyer.

He taught Liz how to do mediate, the major is smile. Smile with face, smile with mind.

And you must want to know how old the old man is, frankly speaking, only god knows. He only knows his birthday is a Thursday. The date is not important to him.

And she falls in love with Felipe, a considerate man.

That is a lovely ending, I think.

Travel along takes much, and always gets much.

I think Liz found what she wants, and she get rid of the troublesome things.

She has a new life now. That's pretty good.

Nest book I want to read is The Wind in the Willows.

The author is Kenneth Grahame

There are 249 pages in this book.

This book has 12 chapters.

I bought this book in my senior high, but I didn't read it.

My reading journal 4 A組 曹凱倫

My reading journal 4

I have read 76 tales already. I think I can finish this book before April ends.

By the way, Liz found her word, ANTEVASIN. It means "one who lives at the border."

She go to Indonesia after her trip in India, she has no friends (even friends' friends) in Indonesia. She went there two years ago and visited a famous healer, Ketut Liyer.

He told her can go back to see him, and she is back now. She helps him read letters and English. Vice versa, he teaches her Balinese meditation.

I think it is very happy to both of them, that kind of happiness cannot describe in any languages.

I have an e-pal in France, he is a book author, and we met each other five tears ago.

We still stay in touch. That's amazing. He intends to come to Taiwan this summer.

So far, I spent little time to read, more time to think and to type for journals.

I get more than I predict. Reading book in its own language is really different and interesting.

This Monday I had a oral test in my class "novels in English", presentation really help me to think more to present more and get more. Group presentation does the same. That's really helpful. We will do our best to present better next time.

My reading journal 3 A 組 曹凱倫

My reading journal 3

During the two weeks, I have read 2/3 of the second part.

The second part is about her travel in India (the pursuit of devotion)

This time I didn't read in detail, I tried to get the whole imagine.

I skipped the word I do not know, I just guess their meanings.

I will be very happy when I finish the second part.

Still. I want share the idea I like most to you

You must heard the term called "soul mate"

Do you think a soul mate is your perfect fit?

Or the one know you well?

Precisely, soul mate is a mirror. They come to our life just to reveal another layer of ourselves to us, and then they leave.

Liz's problem is she cannot let go. I think that is also my problem.

My Reading Journal 2 Group A 曹凱倫

My reading journal 2

I have to say sorry to this book, teacher, and myself, because I have skipped almost a week in these two weeks. (For some private reasons)

So far, I just have read one section.

Even though I didn't read much, I can feel what the author (Liz) felt in some unique times.

For instance, one day I was on my way home and read this book, and I cried because her heartbroken.

Liz wrote an email to David (her lover after her divorce)

She imagines he will ask she back to his arms and he will change.

However, the fact is cruel; he agrees with Liz that they have to say good-bye forever.

The paragraph is about Liz's reaction after seeing the email

"I sit there staring at the computer screen in silence for a long, sad time. It's all for the best, I know it is. I'm choosing happiness over suffering, I know I am. I am making space for the unknown future to fill up my life with yet-to-come surprises. I know all this. But still… "

I can understand this kind of dilemma. I think only time can smooth the hurt.

I just broke up with my boyfriend last year. Sometimes I feel upset, depressed, and not knowing what to do. I know my decision is right, but I still cannot bear the loneliness.

"…… Beauty attracts beauty" he wrote this back to Liz.

And another funny thing is every city has a single word that defines it.

A friend of Liz's says that Rome's word is SEX, and Liz thinks the word of New York is ACHIEVE.

I think the word of Taiwan is SETTLE DOWN. And I also wonder about my own word, I cannot find an extremely word for myself. Maybe it's dilemma, I think.

Wish you can find your own word. =)

Last week I listened the speech "I have a dream".

Btw, I have finished "the bluest eye" last week. (Because I took the class "novels in English" ) I enjoy learning English.

That's all for my reading journal.

The book I choose is eat, pray, love

Copyright © Elizabeth Gilbert, 2006

There are 445 pages in this book.

This book includes three sections, Italy, India, and Indonesia.

Each of them also includes 36 tales. (So there are 108 tales in this book.)

Why?

In India, the traditional "japa mala" (念誦謦) is strung with 108 beads, and the number 108 is held to be most auspicious, a perfect three-digit multiple of three, its components adding up to nine, which is three threes.

All in all, the reason why does she divide her story into 108 tales is that she wants to structure it like a japa mala.

There are 36 tales in each section, which appeals to her on a personal level because she is writing all this during her thirty-sixth year.

(Excerpts from Introduction)

This is a book about Liz's travel after her divorce in her mid-thirties.

To begin with, the first section is the pursuit of pleasure.

I have read 24 tales already; however, I cannot get the whole imagine from this book.

I think I got maybe 70 to 80 percents.

She went to the language school in Italy and in the beginning she felt everything is good and beautiful.

Although she felt good, she still couldn't let Depression and Loneliness go.

She wrote and talked to herself, she recognized herself as a friend.

Finally, she is free from them.
