The book I chose is "The Kite Runner". The author is Khaled Hosseini who is an immigrant from Afghanistan and lives in America now.
This book is started with an intimate friendship between two boys- Amir and Hassan. They grew up, lived and played together, though their relationship was master and servant. It seems that the peaceful life will last forever until the misery happened when Amir was 12 years old. Unfortunately, at the critical moment of the misery Amir chose to betray his friend. After that, the two good friends were apart from each other forever.
Until now, there is a sentence-"For you, a thousand times over." in the book impressed me most. It was expressed by Hassan to show his loyalty and dedication without any repayment. The loyalty of Hassan contrast sharply with the cowardice of Amir. Nevertheless, maybe facing the misery is too hard for a child. After all, lack courage to face the reality is always a weakness of human nature.
Another importance factor constructs this book is "inequity". As a non-Afghan, I can understand hardly why the status of some races is still lower than others in 21th century. I do not think this kind of things would happen in this modern society. Apparently my thinking is innocent. After reading almost the half of this book, I am looking forward to read the rest of it.

This two weeks I finally finished my chosen book – Charlotte's Web. The ending was just like what I predicted, but even more loving and happier.
Thanks to friends' help, the pig, Wilbur, eventually won the medal in the fair, which could protect him from being killed as ham or bacon. The honor of triumph brought joy to everyone there. The moment Wilbur enjoyed in the glory, the spider, Charlotte, told him a bad news that she was going to die. What a sudden strike to Wilbur. By reading here, I was sad to cry. Wilbur was going to lose his best friend, such a kind friend. Though I'm afraid of spiders, I do like Charlotte. Charlotte was too weak to travel home with everybody. The only thing Wilbur could do was that bring Charlotte's egg sac home, taking care of them.
Wilbur leaded a wonderful time in winter when he should have been killed. Now, spring was coming and dozens of baby spiders crawled from the sac. They were excited to see their mother's best friend. But most of them didn't want to live in the pigpen. They traveled to another place by using their silk to form a balloon and flew by wind. I doubt weather spiders can really use silk to form balloons. If it is real, it's magical. There were three spiders left to company with Wilbur. They were good friends, too. But in Wilbur's heart, no other spider can take Charlotte's place.
There were too many appealing things in our life, such as computer and television. Sometimes, we forgot there also has something interesting around us. Something was simple, not too complicated and worth noticing.

This week I select a article from National Geographic to write my reading journal.I think last book I select to read is too diffcult for me to read,
I can't really understand the mean of the book and read efficiently. So,I revise my plan to find the article from same magazines or newspapers to write
my reading journals. The topic of the article I select this week is "Alexander The Great's "Crown" Shield Discovered?"writen by Sara Goudarzi.
An ancient tomb thought to held the body of Alexander The Great's father philip II is actually that of Alexander's half brotheer. In 1977, the
archaeologists found out the three ancient royal Macedonian burials, the Tomb I is a sigle stone box containg human identified as mature male,a younger
female, and a newborn. The Tomb II is a large vaulted tomb with two chambers, contained a young woman and a mature male and remain some treasures including
some vessels, potterys,an iron helmet, and a ceremonial shieldand an object initially identified as a scepter.
Later, the archaeologists announced that the burial in the main chamber of the large rich tomb was that of Philip II,father of Alexander the Great, who
was assassinated in 336 B.C.But,their theory had been breaken today.some scientist found the new evidences to proof these treasures remain in the Tomb
II don't produce in Philip II's era,and the mature male laying in the chamber is Alexander's half brother, who had been Alexander The Great's successor.

Continue to the last section , we might think that Oliver could be well treated for a long while , but things always go wrong , a good friend of Mr. Brownlow , whom being called Mr. Grimwig , comes to his house , with the habit that always says to eat his own head , doubts Oliver's honsety , leads Mr. Brownlow to have Oliver to send the books and money back the bookstore , taken it as a test , wants to prove his view toward Oliver is correct that he is a good child . Unfortunately , Oliver fails. The reason is not concern about his nature but his miserable destiny , he is being found by these thieves , taken back to their beachhead , and "well treated" . Just at the moment , Nancy , a lover of Bill sike , defends Oliver , tries to protect him from the "heaven" where he is , and finally from his friend . I am wondering that why author make Nancy become Oliver's protector though she couldn't help much , through chapters before , author has a clear distinction between these who are good and bad , but now Nancy's behavior blurs that boundary . Could we say , in fact , author still believes that the humanity is good , even "now" they're bad . I see the hope from Nancy , I wish she 's not the only one in the time that we think the world is brutal and dark , I really hope so .

I have finished the book ,called "The Chronicles of Narnia-the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe".

The main idea of the book is that some kids Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie from our world go into a magical world " Narnia"through the Wardrobe .And there is a evil white witch who has enchanted Nania for a long time so that it is always winter and never Christmas . The kids help the inhabitants of Narnia fight the forces of white witch.

I love one of the main characters ,called Aslan . He is not only a lion but also the king and god of Narnia. The reason why I love him is that he sacrifices his life to help another. Aslan represents Christ.

"The Chronicles of Narnia-the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"is not difficult to read. I enjoy entering this magic world with these kids because I can see many interesting things ,and can experience a exciting adventure.

In this two month, I finished the book " Charlotte's Web ". The literary in the book is plain, so I can image the frame clearly by its vivid description. Now I will continue to represent the summary of the story.

Wilbur is vigorous and always exploring new things. He lives with Fern, the girl who has saved him, for a few weeks and then is sold to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman. Though Fern visits him at the Zuckermans' farm as often as she can, Wilbur feels lonelier day after day. Finally, a warm and soothing voice tells him that she is going to be his friend. The next day, he wakes up and meets his new friend: Charlotte, the gray spider. Wilbur soon becomes a member of the community of animals who live in the cellar of Zuckerman's barn.

When the old sheep in the barn cellar tells Wilbur that he is going to be killed and eaten at Christmas, he asks Charlotte for help. Charlotte has the idea of writing words in her web praising Wilbur's excellence (such as 'SOME PIG'), reasoning that if she can make Wilbur sufficiently famous, he will not be killed. Thanks to Charlotte's efforts, Wilbur not only lives, but goes to the county fair--with Charlotte--and wins a prize.

Because of the short lifespan of spiders, Charlotte dies at the fair. Wilbur repays Charlotte by bringing home with him the sacred of eggs she had laid at the fair before dying. When Charlotte's eggs hatch at Zuckerman's farm and most of Charlotte's daughters leave to make their own lives elsewhere, three (Nellie, Aranea and Joy) remain there as friends to Wilbur.

The story reminds me of the movie "Babe", which acts by animals. Both of them feature by little pig. And I am delighted with those two pigs have a happy ending!

A year without made in China ? To me , it is difficult. You can imagine that all the things around us almost made in China or be made up of material which come from China. The goods come from China with low price because of its' low cost of labor .if I din't buy these goods means that I should buy something from the other country.Maybe the quality will be good, but your money will loss. And why we boycott the China's goods? I don't think boycott is a right behavior. You can choose what you like but don't easily boycott somethibg. There are many people live in China need the wages to support their own family. Maybe the quality of goods is bad,but they have a low price . Good quality or low price is your own decision!

I started my new book with a hard beginning.I don't know whether it's really difficult to understand its meaning or it's my afraid of this advanced level book let me can't grasp the meaning. At the beginning,I read at a slow speed .I have to read back the same sentences over and over again. But now I can read it fluently.I think I get used to it and I conquered my fear.
The story is covered with a dark color. It described a scene that every one who wanna climbed up Shooter's hill defended to everyone else .It's a simple description, but it pointed out it's a time that the society is not stable.People lived under terror and they don't trust others. Then someone came and brang a letter to one of them called Jerry. This is the content of chapter one .I don't konw what's going on ,but when I kept reading I knew that it's a part of the story happened afterwards. the following action is an old man ,Mr.Lorry ,met a lady, Lucie Manette. He told her that her father was still alive and he wanted her to see him. They went to a wine shop .Her father was in a secret room of the wine shop with its door locked .Her father was making shoes when they got in.He kept making without any emotion on his face until Lucie Manette called him.He teared down on his face.
It's a charming book. Now I still can't get well-known of the roles' relationship. But I expect to.I wanna konw what had happened and will happen. It likes that there has a magic to push me to reading on.

During this two week I just read one English book called "A Christmas Carol."
It is written by Charles Dickens, retold by F. H. Cornish. And this book is at elementary level .There are about 1,100 basic words in it. The main story is about a mean old man called Scrooge, who at last became a kind person.
Scrooge worked with Marley in the same office as a businessman. Marley died several years ago. Scrooge didn't think about anybody, even his partner. He hated Christmas and said Christmas was humbug. What he care was his money. Not until Marley's ghost appeared did he turn over a new leaf. To save Scrooge from traveling endlessly through the world after his death, he asked three ghosts to meet Scrooge that night.

The first ghost was Christmas Past. It showed Scrooge his past. Scrooge wasn't so mean when he was young, he had warm Christmas with his friends. The unhealthy interest in money made him change gradually. After Scrooge in the present saw this, he cried.

The second ghost was Christmas Present. It was very kind. It showed Scrooge the poor but cheerful Christmas and his nephew's Christmas. The poor were very happy and they drank to Scrooge's health, though Scrooge wasn't so kind to them. Scrooge was moved.

The last of the ghosts was Christmas Yet. It was mysterious. It showed Scrooge's death. Nobody cared about it. In another family a little boy died. The family members cried, and they would remember him forever.

After the night, Scrooge became kind to others. A mean and stingy person finally turned into a generous and kind man.
In this story, Scrooge only paid attention to his money. He didn't care about others, even his nephew. No matter Marley's ghost and the three ghosts is true or just a dream, Scrooge indeed learned a lesson from it. And I hope I will also keep the story in mind. I am not sure whether when I earn lots of money one day will I turn into a person like stingy Scrooge. But I wish I will never forget this: "Money can't buy you everything, especially happiness."

In the past two weeks, I had kept reading and had already finished it at 4/10.To sum up,I had some personal ideas after reading it.
In fact,in the beginning, Elizabeth and Darcy had prejudice against each other. However they reconciled their feelings for each other at last. The marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth resulted in ineresting and inconceiviable ending as they got to know one another.
Naturally,we offen get picky, critical or arrogant fellinf on other and think little of others. It is precisely the high time for " Pride and Prejudice " to present themselves. So is for the conflict to come about. This dark side of human characters is intensively exaggerated and painted in this book in a very careful manner, to which is worthy to pay every attention of yours closely.
Sometimes we have first negative or positive impression that is stubbornly rooted and it is human characters. In my view, the real weakness of human character is how harsh one may treat others, but to himself totally contrarily. IN this book, because of Elizabeth's ordinary birth, Dasi failed to speak out his feelings to Elizabeth by giving way to his pride. He felt terribly embarrassed by falling in love with a girl of inferior family. His dignity get heavily burdened accordingly.
The orthodox criteria of one's birth make both of them turn a blind eye to their love in-between. Wisest as man is, one often gets stuck with some certain paranoiac rules for the sake of ridiculous principles. Doesn't he realize that as a man, only showing his true color is the only way to justify what he is.
In spite of numerous difficulty and misunderstanding, love is as usual so unstoppable and tops over every hindrance. Among all of the conflicting events in succession, these two aspects of human character, pride and prejudice, evidently reveal themselves. We people always consider us greater than any creature. As it is, we are no better, and this is illustrated best by the leading roles of this book.

I didn't notice the dr's comment last week, I will improve! Thx!

I finished the "WHITE FANG" this week, I read from pages 28 to pages 39.

White Fang sold by his master, Gray Beaver. Beauty Smith bought him.

However beauty Smith called White Fang "The Killer Wolf" and showed

him to people for money. When White Fang slept, people woke him with stick,

they wanted to see an angry wolf. White Fang was very angry;

he hated beauty Smith very much. One day, White Fang was hurt by other dogs,

and then beauty Smith sold White Fang to Matt.

Matt took White Fang to his home. In this way, White Fang's old life ended,

and his new life began. Slowly, he learned new lessons and forgot old ones.

White Fang liked Matt very much. White Fang has changed from a vicious

wolf to a faithful dog.

In my opinion, Matt helped White Fang learn what is life and love.

In this two weeks, I read"Charlotte's Web" almost half. This book begins when John Arable's sow gives birth to a litter of piglets, and he discovers one of them is a runt and decides to kill it. However, his 9 year old daughter Fern begs him to let it live. Therefore her father gives it to Fern as a pet, and she names the runt Wilbur.

Wilbur lives with Fern for a few weeks and then is sold to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman. Although Fern visits him at the Zuckermans' farm as often as she can, Wilbur gets lonelier day after day. Eventually, a warm and soothing voice tells him that she is going to be his friend. The next day, he wakes up and meets his new friend: Charlotte, the gray spider.

I can never imagine that a pig will give all its true heart to a spider which looks terrible and dangerous. Likewise, the spider returns a true-hearted promise to the pig which may not have future at all . Though they're different from each other, it won't be the gap between their friendship. Their friendship cross all the boundaries, and is built by two hearts' harmony. Now, I have many thoughts about my friends. I never think much about the meaning of friendship, but now, I have new idea. I'll try to treat my friends with my true heart more than before.

In other words, the man was not existent. But later, he saw the stranger by his eyes in the barn, too. He called their mother, Sarah soon. The man said he just felt cold, but he didn't get fever. Charlie also want to get the Gold ticket, but he only can eat a bar of chocolate on his birthday as his birthday present. He didn't think too much.

One day Charlie saw a fifty-pence piece which was buried under the snow. After he checked that none of people was searching for any money, he pulled it out of the snow. Then he immediately went to o shop buy "food " Wonka's chocolate.

I think food is the most important thing for such a thin and poor child. When he tore off the wrapper , there came a brilliant flash of gold .How lucky Charlie was! The lucky children were the 4 kids and Charlie and they can visit the factory. Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory is really an attractive and mysterious place to children and I am no exception. On seeing various sweets' names, I felt greedy with mouth watering. Look into the factory is really like taking a sweets journal.

Due to the mid-term exam, I didn't read any new chapter in this week. Therefore, I will analyze the difference between "The Tales From Shakespeare" and "The Phantom Of The Opera."

Even both of two books are talking about the most famous opera in the world, but I think the two books are totally different. The reason is the level. "The Tales From Shakespeare" is written by Charles and Mary Lamb. The reason why they wrote this book is that they intended to as an introduction about Shakespeare for readers who were too young to read the plays. The words in the book are not so hard. However, "The Phantom Of The Opera" is written by Gaston LEROUX , the origin author. The letters in the book are really difficult. Actually, I didn't "read" this book. I "scanned" and "skimmed" this book because many words I didn't know. If I spent time looking for the words, I think it will take five minutes or even more to understand the words and what the sentence actually mean. Besides, I will not use the words I look for and I had watched the movie before so that I just skim it and scan it.

It is quite different between the movie and the book. In the movie, the tempo is really fast, just about twenty minutes or a little more but the movie already present three chapters. The movie also ignore many details such as "why there is a ghost", "the history about the theater" etc. due to the time district. Nevertheless, this is also the reason why somebody likes to watch the movie due to they can know the story in a short period or someone loves to read the book because there are more details in it.

This week I read the character 2 of my novel. This character talked about Bruce's tragedy-like childhood. In character 1, Bruce fell into the well, attacked by screeching bat.

This memory engraved scars into his little mind.

One day, his father and mother took him to the classic theater to watch the opera. In the middle, lots of bat dropped from above, hung from wires. This screen reminded him of his trauma. Even though he tried his best to smooth his swell, he still can't control his terror.

Finally, he asked both mother and father to leave. They agreed. However, when they walked in sidewalk, a man with a gun rushed to them. "Wallet, jewelry , hurry!" Afterward, the man killed Bruce's father and mother when he took away their stuff. Even though the murder was captured by police, Bruce 's scar never gone.

My Reading Journal 4 Team L 林孟萱

In last reading journal I had introduced the book "The Secret Garden ", including it's simple story content and something about the author. In this period, I finished reading "The Secret Garden", and I found another book named "New Yorkers" as my next book. So this time I would like to tell you some sentiments which I got when I was reading the story. And if I discover something interesting in "New Yorkers", I will share with you next time.

I think "The Secret Garden " is a story which sees children as it's bulk, so the story is proceeding around the children and using points of the children's view to watch this world. Mary Lennox, a little girl, is the leading character of this story. Mary is born in a middle-class family, so she doesn't need to worry about her livelihood. But her parents are always busy with their own things and don't care about Mary. Her father is an official who is engaged in his work; her mother is a pretty woman who spent all her time going to parties. They can afford employing servants, so Mary is often accompanied only with servants who paid to look after her. I think that is a reason which results in some bad personalities of Mary, like that Mary is bad-tempered, disagreeable, and selfish. The children truly need others' company, especially the company of parents, and not only in material but also in spirit. I consider it is important that parents take time to be with kids and do some things, such as tell stories to them, play ball or go to a picnic with them, anything is fine. The important thing is parents and children are together, not what they do. In those time which parents and children spent together, they can exchange their thoughts about things, discuss or even argue with others, or they can just enjoy the company with family without many words. In that chance parents also can tell children what is good and what is bad, in order to make children have right values. And children can share their discoveries in daily life to make parent know what they underwent. The company and communication will get the relationship between parents and children be more closer. So I consider parents can not take they are busy as an excuse, and then not take time to be with children. Relatively, children also should not think talking with parents is wasting time. Family is everyone's strongest support. We should cherish every minute which we get along with our family.

The above is a part of my thought after reading "The Secret Garden". I still have some other thoughts left if having chance I will share about you. Now I have finished reading two books. Although I didn't spend much in reading and the books I chose are only thin and easy to read, I still feel happy and a little sense of achievement, and I indeed gain something when I am reading and sometimes when I am thinking.
