I have finished the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yesterday.

The following is the summary of this book.

Charlie Bucket and his family are very poor. The only treat that Charlie receives is a single chocolate bar for his birthday each year. This year is special because Willy Wonka, the owner of the largest chocolate factory in the world, hid five golden tickets inside the chocolate bars. The five lucky children who find the tickets will be invited to be his guests at his factory for the day and receive enough chocolate to last a lifetime. With luck on his side, Charlie finds a golden ticket inside a bar of chocolate.. The five lucky children encounter many adventures with Willy Wonka inside the chocolate factory. Willy Wonka has many tricks up his sleeve and a special surprise for the child that remains at the end of the day.

I never really thought how cool it would be to enter a chocolate factory until I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I thought it was just a couple of rotten, metal, rusty machines and some work men wearing hair nets. But when I read this book it was like a whole new world inside this factory .This factory brought me into a whole different world of candy making.

I finished reading "Arctic Tale" these days. There are two parts in this book. First, the book presents the polar bears and the walrus lives. After last time I read, I learned some new about the animals in Arctic. I found that when the baby polar bears grow up to two years old, their mother will let them leave from her and live by themselves. The young polar bear will start the solitarily life. On the other hand, walruses inhabit on the ice shore all together. They move and hunt as herds. Until the young walrus is ready to mate, all-female walrus will help her to choose the best male walrus from the male walrus herd. Then the couple will leave the herd they live with before, and start to find other companions.

The second part of the book describe that the environment changes in Arctic. Temperatures get higher than before. It has risen three to five degrees. Consequently, the ice become expand more slowly and contract more quickly.

In the past, the walrus herd will migrate from north to south. But now, the migratory distance has been less. The ice sheet is also melting earlier and faster these years. The seals are harder to find to the polar bears, and the hunting has been difficult.

If the environment gets worse and worse, the animals in Arctic will live harder and harder. I think everyone must protect the earth. We should not let the any species disappear just because people luxurious lives. Cherishing the global is our responsibility.

He said that "Christmas is just a time when you find yourself a year older and not a penny richer. But on the Christmas Eve three spirits come to him. They take him traveling on the wings to see the shadows of Christmas past, present, and future, and Scrooge learns a lesson that he will never forget. After he return to his real life, he change his mind and he become more happy

than ever before, and he have more interaction with people and see Christmas as a wonderful day. I'm glad to see the change in his heart.

I finished "A Tale of Two Cities" this week. It's tragic and let me have a heavy heard. In the story the people fought against the aristocracy for their cruel and the unfair treating. At first I think that's right for the self-caring aristocracy to accept punishment for what they had had the people suffering. But every thing lost control very soon.People became lblood-thirsting and sentenced other citizens as the ruling blass had done. They lost their mind. They killed people who are related to the aristocracy without sufficient reasons. For the republic became a murder tool. Why?Darnay is different from the cruel aristocracy. He consider for people .But they still wanted him to die for he is a member of the aristocracy. It's unfair! He is innocent.Their lives have no rule to follow.Even you being good, you still have the chance to involve in a trial.Madame Defarge, she killed several citizens under the hname of liberty ,equlity and fraternity. She thought she was against the evil, but in the end she went the same road as the cruel aristocracy.

What brought these happened? It's a circle I think. The aristocracy didn't care for the people. They proud of themselves and consider people dogs or rats. They abused people until they can't stand anymore. They want to revenge. In the way the people got lost ,too.I thanks the terrible era had gone and it's a good lesson for us to take.I hope it will never happen again in the future.
Every body needs a peace land to live on.

Summary

Captain Miller and his men encountered German tank's attack in Ramelle. Because someone saved them, everybody didn't get hurt. More fortunately, someone is Ryan that they had to find. After Miller talked to Ryan that they had to bring him home. Ryan said "he doesn't deserve special treatment and he want to stay to continue his mission-keep control of bridge." Miller had no choice but to help him accomplish his task and then took him home. They all know this task was very difficult because they have little weapons to fight German's task. So Miller thought one way that is to make some of them go down the main road between those buildings. We can use the broken bricks and stones to make the passage narrower. Then they can't go through it.

At the end, they succeed but in order to protect Ryan from attack, Miller was shot by German's soldier and then he died.

I hasn't finish my book this time.I really read at a very slow speed.I didn't give many times for reading it.I still can't have this habit.Whether I want to read or not is seemed to be affected by my mood. When I feel tired or bad in mood I can't keep reading on and it is a hindrance that make me can't concentrate on not only reading but studying. Now I think it's time for me to face this trouble seriously. But I haven't found a way to improve it.
Another problem is that I mix some charactors together. When I saw a name I wondered who he is and what did he do.I think it's really hard for me to memorize them because it is still not familiar to me.I find it is more easier to remember when I speak out their name .The sound make me impressive.
This time I can smell the story's important idea. The people prepaired to revolution. They killed the spy once they knew someone is.They are not afraid of being captured or dead. This bad era should be changed.Prople shouldn't live in terror and they must do smething.

This time, I chose the book "A Christmas Carol" for me. It is written by

Charles Dickens in 1843, illustrated by Ian Miller and published by OXFORD BOOKWORMS LIBRARY. Its level is stage 3(1000 headwords), and there are 57 pages in the book.

The reason why I chose this book is that I read the guide of it and it had me want to know more about it. I have finished 25 pages.

The story is said that the leading character, Scrooge is a hard, clever but mean man.

The only thing that matters him is business, and making money. Everyone will not say hello or give a smile to him. When his nephew visited him on Christmas Eve, he was not happy but saw Christmas as humbug.

I think Scrooge is really a lonely man. I think he is so capitalist that he always feels money is important in his life. Therefore, he armed himself with coldness and forgets to pursue more meaningful and nice things in his life.

My Reading Journal 6 G組 吳中翔

After teacher teaching us how to choose the book to read and how to write the reading journal, I decided to rechose the book.
These weeks, I found the book called "ARCTIC TALE". It's written by Barry Varela and published by National Geographic. The "ARCTIC TALE" was released movie and book together last year. The leading roles are Nanu and Seela. Nanu is a baby polar bear, and Seela is a newborn walrus.
It's a story talking about their living in arctic.
The reasons I chose this book is that I am interested in the animals in arctic! In this book, I learned that the male polar bear will leave the female and baby polar bear, and it's also will eat them. How strange it is! So that, baby polar bears live with their mother. The baby walrus not only live with mother and also their aunt they meet on the way to the other place. Polar bears don't afraid of other animals in arctic. They are the strongest. Moreover, both polar bear and walrus eat the seal. I didn't know these things before. It was amazing for me! The other reason is that this story is related about the global warming. Global warming is the issue everyone talking about now. With the temperature get higher and higher, the ice in arctic will melt away. The animals will have no place to live. I think this book may also present the environment in arctic now.
There are 118 pages (11 chapters) in this book. I have read 54 pages (4 chapters). However, "ARCTIC TALE" is easier to read than other books I chose before, and the content is interesting. I hope I can finish it as quick as I can.

This week I choose the book "Saving private ryan" to read. It is adapted from the novel by Max Allan Collins and based on the screenplay by Robert Rodat. There are 101 pages(15 chapters) in this book.
Although I saw this movie before, I didn't know what the director want to tell us because I was only 8 at that time. So I decide to read this book to know this story again.
The story is talked about at WW2,Captain John Miller and his men received the mission from government that they had to look for Ryan and brought him home because all his brothers died in the war.
After reading this story I have some opinions. Is it worth to rescue Ryan at risk of all teams lives? I think it is not worth because they all have familys. If they die at the mission, their parents also are very sad. In addition,at the war,as citizen you must have determination of sacrifice for the country. So if Ryan die unfortunately we will be proud of him not sad for him.

This time I saw a brilliant judgement in the court.Charles Darnay was accused of treason and there had many evidence to show that he had traveled between France and England regularly. It was seemed that he would certainly sentenced to death. But things doesn't go on that way.Darnay's lawyer ,Mr. Stryver, made an total twist .The one who sat beside him had the same apperance as Darnay.Mr.Stryver showed that the judge made false evidences to let Darnay be gulity. It was a surprised truth but it indicates the period that the law and government was not an institute that can work its function and was distrustable.
Another important part is the aristocracy's power.Marquis is mentioned in this story. He is an classical aristocracy. He only cared about himself and viewd other people as rats and dogs.He thought whip was the only way to treat them.He didn't care the death of them. His value was totally distorted. It not his fault. It was the abolition and the time made him this kind of person. He was just a tragic of the time.
I think the most difficult part for me to read is I can't recognise their names easily,so I have to turn to front pages to find who he is.

In these two weeks, I've finished the book," Charlie and the chocolate factory". I feel my speed of reading is a little slow and too easy for me, so I decide to quicken my speed and choose an advanced book for reading.

Mr. Willy Wonka took 5 children and 5 adults to various miraculous places where he invent and produce his unique sweets. Everyone was shocked and excited when visiting these places. But due to some person's greed, crankiness and arrogance, some people were gone and to an unknown places. Eventually, only Charlie and his grandfather were left. 'Oh! That means you are won!' said Wonka. And he decided to make Charlie a present of whole places. 'As soon as you are old enough to run it, the entire factory will become your's.' said Wonka.

Wonka was cheated in the early age and became specious of people. But with the time went by, he got old and still realize that he must to search for a reliable person to whom he will give the factory. The book seems to be merry and full of lots of sweets, in reality, it also tell us a lot, so In my opinion, looking for a really reliable person is very important in life.

He decided to take a year off and it crossing the Pacific Ocean in a hot-air balloon. So that he could be alone with no body to bother him and leaving his destination to the winds. It's the story of Professor William Watermsn Sherman's unusual voyage, of his fabulous friends and unusual life.on the Island of Krakatoa ending with the noisiest day in the life of any man in history. The period of the book isthe period when balloons were most popular, 1860 to 1890.
This book is very interesting to me. I wish that I can finish this book in this month.

This week I choose the book "Forrest Gump" to read. Before I read this book, I only heard about the title.I did't know what this book talk about. After I finish it, I find it changes my mind toward this world a lot and also encouages me never give up.In the story, though,Forrest is low in intelligene,he is good at running even elected in soccer star team.It tells us if god closes one window he will open the other window for you.Everyone all has a potential ability just look at you can find it or not.I also think Forrest is very optimistic about his life.He never envies other people's have, in the contrary, he only looks at what he has.
"Life is like a box of chocolates,Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get."
is my favorite sentence in the story. I think it is just life.

I started my new book with a hard beginning.I don't know whether it's really difficult to understand its meaning or it's my afraid of this advanced level book let me can't grasp the meaning. At the beginning,I read at a slow speed .I have to read back the same sentences over and over again. But now I can read it fluently.I think I get used to it and I conquered my fear.
The story is covered with a dark color. It described a scene that every one who wanna climbed up Shooter's hill defended to everyone else .It's a simple description, but it pointed out it's a time that the society is not stable.People lived under terror and they don't trust others. Then someone came and brang a letter to one of them called Jerry. This is the content of chapter one .I don't konw what's going on ,but when I kept reading I knew that it's a part of the story happened afterwards. the following action is an old man ,Mr.Lorry ,met a lady, Lucie Manette. He told her that her father was still alive and he wanted her to see him. They went to a wine shop .Her father was in a secret room of the wine shop with its door locked .Her father was making shoes when they got in.He kept making without any emotion on his face until Lucie Manette called him.He teared down on his face.
It's a charming book. Now I still can't get well-known of the roles' relationship. But I expect to.I wanna konw what had happened and will happen. It likes that there has a magic to push me to reading on.
*This week I am busy handling the mid-term eaxm so I don't read much.

I have read the book" Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for 4 weeks and now I will

tell the complex continued the preceding reading journal.

Charlie also want to get the Gold ticket, but he only can eat a bar of chocolate on his birthday as his birthday present. He didn't think too much.

One day Charlie saw a fifty-pence piece which was buried under the snow. After he checked that none of people was searching for any money, he pulled it out of the snow. Then he immediately went to o shop buy "food " Wonka's chocolate.

I think food is the most important thing for such a thin and poor child. When he tore off the wrapper , there came a brilliant flash of gold .How lucky Charlie was! The lucky children were the 4 kids and Charlie and they can visit the factory. Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory is really an attractive and mysterious place to children and I am no exception. On seeing various sweets' names, I felt greedy with mouth watering. Look into the factory is really like taking a sweets journal.

I finished the book "EMMA". It is written by Jane Austen.
The story of EMMA is talking about the young woman, Emma's life and her love. Emma is beautiful and rich, but her mother died when she was very young. She lived with her father Mr. Woodhouse and sister Isabella. They lived in Highbury where is near London. After her sister got married and lived with her husband in London. Only Emma and her father lived together. Mr.Woodhouse hoped that Emma not to get marry. If she get marry, he will be very lonely.
Emma didn't want get marry, either. She has never thought of getting married herself. Instead, she amused herself by trying to arrange marriages between her friends and neighbors. But Emma made a lot of mistakes and cause more problems than happy marriages. For example, she tried to match her friend Harriet and Mr. Elton. She thought that they like each other secretly in their own mind. But in fact, whom Mr. Elton loved is Emma, not Harriet. When Mr.Elton told Emma that he loved her, Emma felt very unhappy and sad. She didn't like Mr. Elton, and she was sure that Harriet will be heartbroken. Finally, she refused Mr.Elton and talked the true to Harriet. Emma was so busy trying to arrange other people's lives. Then she almost lost her own chance of love.
Day by day, Emma met more and more people in her life. She began trying to find her true love. Frank was her first love. He was very kind and humorous. Emma always hoped she can walking with him and talking with him all the time. But she found that Frank didn't loved her, he loved Jane the person that Emma didn't like a little bit. When she felt very sad, she also found that Mr. Knightley loved her. Emma was surprised that Mr. Knightley liked her. She thought he was her friend. However, she finally knew that Mr. Knightley was her Mr. Right. In the end of the story, they got married and lived with Emma's father in Highbury.
This story is talking about love. I think it's main idea is that we don't need to arrange our or other's love so prepensely. Sometimes, maybe you will find your Mr.or Miss Right is just behind you.

I started with a new book "A Tale Of Two Cities ." This book was written by Charles Dickens,a famous novelist which is deepl loved. He is borned in 1812. His father couldn't make good use of money , so he was in the prison for his father's debts. This poor background didn't frustrate him but made him more serious on every thing he did .He was truly afraid of poverty .On the other side,he really paid much attention to the poor.In his early twenties,he wrote his first novel. It's a provement of a man who made an effort despite of bad environment.
This book descripes the story between Paris and London under the French Revolution. In the violence and terror of the revolution,Sydney Carton, sacrificed his life for the girl he loved. This is a tragic.I don't really like these kind of story actually.but I think there is something inside the story that the author wantted us to know.Knowing the author's background can make me easily to konw what the ideas he wants to convey and why he wrote that way.
This book is a 3000 words level. It's more difficulty than last book and I just read a few pages of it. But I think I can get many things from it after I finish it.
