I finished a short story recently. The story is "Roads of Destiny."The story was wrote by O.Henry in 1909.

I introduced the story's content simpley. It was about a poet's story. The poet named David.A day,he fighted with his girlfriend. So he decided to leave his country and went to Paris. And on the road to Paris,he had three roads to choose.Although there were three roads to get Paris, the outcomes would be the same.In spite of which road David chose, his destiny would be the same.Anyway he would die at last. And he met of the persons were all similar on the three roads, but just had different situations.

The story implicited something. The person is difficult to flee for life which is predestined arrangement. I think that we should hold to now and cherish life. Although we can't predict future,we can do some changes at this moment at least. The life is very valuable and we must can't waste it. We can't just know to cherish and regret after waiting for losing it absolutely.

Recently,I read a short novel. The short navel was "The Green Door".The story was major to tell us some lessons. Then I introduced the story's content briefly.

The leading role was Rudolf. He was a true adventurer and a piano salesman. He liked to try many kinds of adventures. In a day,he walked on a noisy street. And there were many black men who were sending out handbilla. And he received one.On the paper, writing some informations about a new clinic. And he was led into a room.He saw there was a girl o the bed who was sick. And then he bought some foods for her.But when he went out the room,he found the rooms' doors here were all green and into these rooms in which had a sick man.At this time, he just knew he was cheated. Originally, this social was dangerous. This story was just probably describing some processes.

And I felt the society in present is really have a lot of things which are what we can't anticipates. This society is no longer we imagine in of ordinary commonness, so when we go out outside, we have to be more careful.

I have finished this book, "eat, pray, love".

This book talked about pleasure, devotion and balance.

Last theme is balance; Liz is in Bali and with the old man, Ketut Liyer.

He taught Liz how to do mediate, the major is smile. Smile with face, smile with mind.

And you must want to know how old the old man is, frankly speaking, only god knows. He only knows his birthday is a Thursday. The date is not important to him.

And she falls in love with Felipe, a considerate man.

That is a lovely ending, I think.

Travel along takes much, and always gets much.

I think Liz found what she wants, and she get rid of the troublesome things.

She has a new life now. That's pretty good.

Nest book I want to read is The Wind in the Willows.

The author is Kenneth Grahame

There are 249 pages in this book.

This book has 12 chapters.

I bought this book in my senior high, but I didn't read it.

Recently,I read a story which calld "Springtime 'a la Carte".But after I finished it,I found the story was a little borning. But I learned some new vocabularies at least,so I still had some harvests.Connecting down, I still introduced the story content.

Sarah was a typist about menu in Schulenberg's Home Restaurant. On the previous summer Sarah had gone into another country and loved a farmer's son who named Walter. When they fall in love,Walter always gave many surprises to Sarah. The impression which was deep for Sarah was once Walter used dandelions made a beautiful hat to Sarah. But afterwards Sarah came back the restaurant in the original country. So they lost contact for some days.Sarah very missed Walter.A day she typed the new menu.In the new menu, there were many dishes about dandelions which made Sarah thought to Walter.Original, all of everythings were designed by Walter.Finaly, they married smoothly.

For me,I had no special feelings to the story. On next time,I would choose an interest story. However,I hope I can really absorb these new wards.

This month , I chose the book To Kill A Mockingbird .
The author is Harper Lee .
The story was happened in 1930s when racialism was the most serious problem in a small town of Alabamian .
A black man was falsely accused by injured and ravished a 19 year-old white woman . The judge assigned a white lawyer to defend him .
All the juries are white people so we can know the outcome . But the lawyer is honest . Before the court , the lawyer bravely defend the defendant in the prison . The lawyer exempted the black to be illegal punished by white people .
After I read here , I know the racialism harms many people . It was very serious several years ago maybe now it is . We should pay much attention to such problem . Because we are the civilized person .

In the two weeks recently,I chose a shorter story to read.Because of the mid-term will come in this week,my read time was less than before.

The story which I chose to read was called "The Love-Philtre of Ikey Schoenstein". I introduce the content of story briefly. There were four major leading roles who were Ikey,Rosy,Mr. McGowan, and Mr. Riddle.Ikey was a medicine teacher in the Blue Light Drug Store, and McGowan was his good friend. But they loved the same girl,Rosy. However,Rosy also liked McGowan. So Ikey was very envy he.A day,McGowan told Ikey that he would elope with Rosy.He hoped the plan can progress smoothly,he need Ikey give a Hallucinogen. And then Ikey gave McGowan it,but he told Rosy's father Mr. Riddle the thing. When the day came,Ikey very suspected the result. But next day McGowan told Ikey that he was success. Originally, the Hallucinogen was drunk by Mr. Riddle incautiously. So Ikey's trick didn't carry out.

So we shouldn't play scheming and frame up others.Otherwise, facts usually with ideal dissimilarity.

Christopher knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057 . He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions . He cannot stand to be touched . And he detests the color yellow .
Although gifted with a superbly logical brain , fifteen-year-old Christopher is autistic and everyday interactions and admonishment have little meaning for him . He lives on patterns , rules , and a diagram kept in his pocket .
Then one day , a neighbor's dog , Wellington , is killed and his carefully constructed universe is threatened . Christopher sets out to solve the murder in the style of his favorite logical detective , Sherlock Holmes .
Its follows really makes me feel funny and fascinating . Its portrayal of a person whose curse and blessing are a mind is fascinating .
I'll finish the good book these days .

I have read 76 tales already. I think I can finish this book before April ends.

By the way, Liz found her word, ANTEVASIN. It means "one who lives at the border."

She go to Indonesia after her trip in India, she has no friends (even friends' friends) in Indonesia. She went there two years ago and visited a famous healer, Ketut Liyer.

He told her can go back to see him, and she is back now. She helps him read letters and English. Vice versa, he teaches her Balinese meditation.

I think it is very happy to both of them, that kind of happiness cannot describe in any languages.

I have an e-pal in France, he is a book author, and we met each other five tears ago.

We still stay in touch. That's amazing. He intends to come to Taiwan this summer.

So far, I spent little time to read, more time to think and to type for journals.

I get more than I predict. Reading book in its own language is really different and interesting.

This Monday I had a oral test in my class "novels in English", presentation really help me to think more to present more and get more. Group presentation does the same. That's really helpful. We will do our best to present better next time.

After RJ2 later,my reading work stopped for a while. Although spring vacation for four days, I still didn't do a good reading work.I used the vacation to do other things. But also not what good thing was, just like to clean grave and some recreation.. So I repaired for getting empty of these several days.Recently,I read a short story.

The story was about a stroller's story.Soapy was a raffish man.He always left in the park and the bench was like his home. When a day,he found that winter seemed to come.He got very worry because he must to find a place to pass the winter. So he has fantastic idea which he wanted to go into the jail. And then he though to the utmost various methods to commit crime, but he all fail. Afterwards he intrude into a private church carelessly, and he heard an anthem which moved him.And he decided to turn over a new leaf and to find a proper work. However the police arrested him by intruding to private residence at this time. He was too late to regret.

Form the story,we can learn some useful things. We would rather to stand on solid ground and not towalk into stray road. This is my harvest that I read this story.

I will be very happy when I finish the second part.

Still. I want share the idea I like most to you

You must heard the term called "soul mate"

Do you think a soul mate is your perfect fit?

Or the one know you well?

Precisely, soul mate is a mirror. They come to our life just to reveal another layer of ourselves to us, and then they leave.

Liz's problem is she cannot let go. I think that is also my problem.

About the story "The Gift of the Magi".It described a girl named Della who had a beautiful long hair and a boy named Jim had a gold watch. They were coupe. And Christmas would come.Della want to buy a valuable watch band for Jim to match his watch. But Della hadn't enough money,so she sold her hair to buy the watch band and prepared to give surprise to Jim.Christmas came,Jim gave a gift to Della which was some elegant hair adornments. But Dwlla's hair was sold, and she gave her gift to Jim.But Jim orderd to buy these hair adornments,he also sold his watch. Finally, they got nothing and they lose their precious.

From the story,we can learn "lose more tan gain".We should treasure our more important thing.

I have to say sorry to this book, teacher, and myself, because I have skipped almost a week in these two weeks. (For some private reasons)

So far, I just have read one section.

Even though I didn't read much, I can feel what the author (Liz) felt in some unique times.

For instance, one day I was on my way home and read this book, and I cried because her heartbroken.

Liz wrote an email to David (her lover after her divorce)

She imagines he will ask she back to his arms and he will change.

However, the fact is cruel; he agrees with Liz that they have to say good-bye forever.

The paragraph is about Liz's reaction after seeing the email

"I sit there staring at the computer screen in silence for a long, sad time. It's all for the best, I know it is. I'm choosing happiness over suffering, I know I am. I am making space for the unknown future to fill up my life with yet-to-come surprises. I know all this. But still… "

I can understand this kind of dilemma. I think only time can smooth the hurt.

I just broke up with my boyfriend last year. Sometimes I feel upset, depressed, and not knowing what to do. I know my decision is right, but I still cannot bear the loneliness.

"…… Beauty attracts beauty" he wrote this back to Liz.

And another funny thing is every city has a single word that defines it.

A friend of Liz's says that Rome's word is SEX, and Liz thinks the word of New York is ACHIEVE.

I think the word of Taiwan is SETTLE DOWN. And I also wonder about my own word, I cannot find an extremely word for myself. Maybe it's dilemma, I think.

Wish you can find your own word. =)

Last week I listened the speech "I have a dream".

Btw, I have finished "the bluest eye" last week. (Because I took the class "novels in English" ) I enjoy learning English.

That's all for my reading journal.

The book I chose to read is called "Short Stories by O.Henry".The reason why I chose it is the auther who is well-known in America in the 20th centry. He is good at short stories creativing. His compositions almost portray the New York life.In his stories, you can know the townpeople's aspirations in the monetary society.

One of the story in the book calls "The Last Leaf".The story's outline as folows:

In Washington Square, there was full of art breath.Sue and Johnsy met at there and they had the same tastes in art.So they became partners and founded their own studio. But in the town,an illness which called "Pneumouia" stalked. Many people were infected from it and included Johnsy.Johnsy was very pessimistic.Outside of her studio, there was an old ivy vine which just remained a few leaves. She said when the leaves all fall down, she would die whit it.Sue was very worry and needed some helps from Behrman who was an arttist in the town. And Behrman's creation spurred Johasy. Finally,Johnsy's illness recovered.

From the story,I learned some apocalypses. We should active and optimistic to face our lives. The life is always so beautiful that we can't give up it rashly.

There are 445 pages in this book.

This book includes three sections, Italy, India, and Indonesia.

Each of them also includes 36 tales. (So there are 108 tales in this book.)

Why?

In India, the traditional "japa mala" (念誦謦) is strung with 108 beads, and the number 108 is held to be most auspicious, a perfect three-digit multiple of three, its components adding up to nine, which is three threes.

All in all, the reason why does she divide her story into 108 tales is that she wants to structure it like a japa mala.

There are 36 tales in each section, which appeals to her on a personal level because she is writing all this during her thirty-sixth year.

(Excerpts from Introduction)

This is a book about Liz's travel after her divorce in her mid-thirties.

To begin with, the first section is the pursuit of pleasure.

I have read 24 tales already; however, I cannot get the whole imagine from this book.

I think I got maybe 70 to 80 percents.

She went to the language school in Italy and in the beginning she felt everything is good and beautiful.

Although she felt good, she still couldn't let Depression and Loneliness go.

She wrote and talked to herself, she recognized herself as a friend.

Finally, she is free from them.
