After viewed chapter 1 to chapter 3 , I make the conclusion that the situation of the main character , Oliver Twist , is an epitome before written law of human rights of children was established . In that time , the basic rights of children were not being emphasized as today , the work time was long , unlimited and always out of their capability ; the payment was little , some of them even not knew they could being paid or not . I guess their physical status , without saying , were poor , they couldn't even being full hunger satisfied like Oliver and those orphan as same as him in the workhouse , and most important is , they were being treated violently all the time when disobedience was presented . In chapter 3 , Oliver was being elected as a reprehensive to express their need for food and the consequence was he became a scapegoat for a trespass which the authorities thank it's a trespass and being beaten to confirm their power . They didn't have freedom and free will , living like a slave that we can't image today . That's the reason why I think is an epitome before written law of human rights of children was established .
