My Reading Journal 2 C組,林泯輝

These days I finish the book 'Tales from Shakespeare.' I read 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Macbeth' and 'Twelfth Night, or What You Will' three plays.
The following is the introduction about the plays which I think it's really famous. The Merchant of Venice is talking about Antonio, a young merchant of Venice, who wants to help his friend, Bassanio to get married with Portia. However, he didn't have enough money to lend his friend so that he borrows money from Shylock, a Jew, a moneylender who also lives in Venice. Antonio sign a contract with Shylock that if he can't repay the money by a certain day, he would lose a pound of flesh, to be cut off from any part of his body that Shylock pleased. To the date, Antonio really can't repay the money due to his boat was lost. At that moment, Bassanio already recognize Portia. When he get the information, he go to help his friend. Besides, Portia, a wise and beautiful lady, also disguises herself as a lawyer to help Antonio. In the court, wise Portia says 'the paper gives you no drop of blood; the words are: 'a pound of flesh.''
However, how could we cut off a pound of flesh without some blood falling? Therefore, the court releases Antonio. After the event, Bassanio get married with Portia.
After finishing the book, Shakespeare is really a great master of plays. Why I say the words? For example, he uses the words 'They were both born in the same hour, and in another hour they were both in danger of death, for they were shipwrecked on the coast if Illyria as they were making a journey together.' to introduce the main characters are twins and make an opening for the stories in 'Twelfth Night, or What You Will.' Thanks for this free reading that I can know about the Shakespeare's plays.

The surging Chinese economy has created uncertainty, fear ,and even anger about unfair competiton. It has also become a major political issue as middle-
class manufacturing jobs are being transferred overseas. The image of China as the beast of far east is well entrenched. But that doesn't necessarily mean
the reality matches the popular perception. So ,is China really the economic steamroller we think it is?
Even more important, could we really live without Chinese goods ?
That is the question asked by author in her book.
So, what is the truth about China? The economic data are not as clear as the press would have we believe. Beginning in the eraly 1980s and accelerating in
the 1990s the Chinese government stopped centrally controlling its economy . China began opening up its markets, and the flood of foreign investment
into the country led to an enormous growth surge in the economy.By the end of 2006, China had one of the five largest economies in the world , and by one
measure, called purchasing power parity , it was second only to the America.

My Reading Journal 2 H組 韓佳恩

Continued from the preceding reading journal, the plot's development is getting more exciting and extremely complicated. The major character— Dr. Maxine and the detective who undertake this murder— Grabowski together try to find the truth of this unsettled case.

The key of the murderer seems to revolve around Maxine's friends, colleagues, and workmates. After Maxine is attacked by the killer who thinks she knows too much several times, she begins to wonder which of her medical colleagues she can trust and both the detective and she investigate possible links between the clues they gather from patient, surgeon, and researcher.
Finally, with lots of obstructions and a painstaking investigation, they find out the murderer— Maxine's colleague and put her in jail.

The story's denouement is so exciting and unexpected that I never think of. Only to read it all along can I realize the interest and the surprising upshot from this book.
In order to improve my reading speed and quantity, I do have dogged determination to achieve this goal and first have perseverance to do so! Even though I still have few days lazy…, I'll try my best to cure me of the bad habit.

Much to my delight, I finish this book on Monday. And I begin to read another one— "James and the Giant Peach." Hope I can read it more effectively than before.

Recently, I have had finished reading two novels.

The one was "Oliver Twist", last time I had not finished yet, the other one was "The Black Pearl".

The end of "Oliver Twist" was happy.
The boy of the story was safe and knew about everything.
And surprisingly, Monks was his borther.
However, because of his evil behavior, he was sent to jail finally.
Then Oliver Twist became Mr.Brownlow's son-in-law.
In sum, I think it was a happy ending.

Another story, The Black Pearl, was a sad story.
It was about a girl, Isobel, always felt a spirit following her in her travel in Korea.
She felt very confused, so she tried to find out the answer.
Finally, she understood.

Long time ago, there was a Korean woman loved her father very much.
But her father did not feel her love, he married another woman.
And Isobel was their daughter.
The woman was so sad that she decided to end her life.
So, her spirit followed Isobel, she wanted Isobel went death too.

Finally, Isobel found the method to throw away the spirit.
I think it was not only sad but scaring story.
Although I finished reading two books, I think I should read more and more.
Because these novel were easy to reading.
I hope I can read at least two books such these in a week.
And reading time will more and more.

I read the book which was named "BABE THE SHEEP-PIG."
The writer was DICK KING-SMITH.
The book retold by CHRIS GRANT-BEAR.
It was published by PENGUIN READERS.
The book was adapted for the screen as 1995 film "BABE ,"which was also named "我不笨,所以我有話要說 " in Chinese.
The film won the Academy Award for Visual Effects.

Because I still had an accounting test on March 20, I delayed many days for preparing the test.
I will continue my reading plan every day.

The book was told about a young pig in a farm, which has recognized a female sheepdog as his mother.
He became from an ordinary young pig to a sheep pig's story.
Finally, he also replaced the sheepdog to participate sheepdog game and got the perfect score to win the champion.

After reading the book, I think that communication is very important.
Handling everything with other people can't use the mandatory and violent way.
We have to communicate with them and let them receive our solution.

My Reading Journal 2 G組 吳欣潔

I finished my book this week. It is not a good ending to me.Maybe in others' opinion it is another good ending to Gump, but Istill hope he can get married with Jenny. They are meant to each other, they are both in love with each other deeply. The every time Gump searched for her.In his heart, she takes an important state.
This book only uses 1200 words,so the contents are very easy and too easy that I can't know more details. But I want to know more!!!So I think I have to choose a book which is more difficult and can contains more .
From this book I realize that Gump tried to do every thing right, he is not stupid at all.And the mind is more important than the inteligent.

Slum Visits: Tourism or Voyeurism?

Published: March 9, 2008

Some visitors are trading museums and monuments for shantytowns and garbage heaps. But critics say these tours are exploitative.
