Perceptions: Watch Your Weight, Sure, but Don’t Worry About It

By NICHOLAS BAKALAR
Published: March 4, 2008

Worrying about weighing too much may be bad for you, no matter how much you actually weigh.
Using results from a telephone health survey run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, researchers analyzed data on more than 170,000 men and women nationwide. Among other information about health and lifestyle, all reported height and weight, how much they would like to weigh and how many days in the past month they had felt physically or mentally unhealthy.

大一英文C組報告文章--36 Hours in Nairobi, Kenya

Our Topic: 36 Hours in Nairobi, Kenya

Published: March 18, 2007

NAIROBI has always been a place in between. It started out as a pit stop on the Kampala-Mombasa railway, and today many tourists look at it the same way: a place to stop for the night, resupply and then leave at first light for a safari or jaunt to the beach. But the city, Kenya’s capital, is emerging as a destination in itself. It has great restaurants, endless shopping, classy colonial-era hotels and plenty of wildlife within the city limits. You can play with baby elephants and hang out with giraffes and then dine on all the ostrich and crocodile you can eat. It’s a thoroughly African city with a whiff of the old English era. True, Nairobi gets a bad rap for crime, but if you avoid cruising around late at night and keep a careful eye on your stuff, you shouldn’t have any problems. Many first-time visitors say they are surprised by how comfortable they feel in the city.

Last week I changed my English book. I replaced The Phantom of the Opera with Bat Man-Begins, because of teacher tsao 's suggestion. I read the Phanton of Opera in two hours, but I only finished 13 pages. I feel frustrated. Therefore I chnaged my book.
I like Bat man very much , that is why I choosed it. He, like you and me, is a human beings only, but he have power to eliminate crime. Besides , first day I read it, I found that every character have not many pages. I hope I could persist with this book

The book I chose is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (A horror classic),which is originally told by Gaston Leroux, and retold by Pauline Francis. The reason that I chose this book is because my English teacher in high school appointed us to read, but I didn't finish it.So,by this chance,I want to finish it begin the reading journal in easier way,and step by step reading higher level.
Let me introduce some information about this book. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA was written in 1909. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is spine chilling and full of drama, just loke a real opera. The phantom lives beneath the Paris Opera House Where he becomes obsesses with a young singer Christine. As he enchants her more and more with his music,he begins to wonder wether he really is a phantom…
About Gaston Leroux,he was born in 1868 in Paris. After studing law,he inherited a million francs,so he had to work for a living, and started to write. He became well known for the Mystery of the Yellow Room, and two years later,he wrote THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
These above are just a general concept about this book.Although I have already known the content roughly,I consider if I finish this book,I will make more confidence in English.Just expect~!

The book I chose is called "Emergency Murder", written by Janet McGiffin. After I saw the synopsis about this book on the back cover, this arouses my interest and curiosity and wants to reveal the rear murder to clear the protagonist of murder charge.

The story's background is that when the wife of a well-known surgeon dies suddenly in the emergency room, Dr. Maxine Cassidy suspects murder. The police agree but sarcastically– they suspect her! I have only read this part so far and I expect the follow-up development so much that I strain at the leash to read.

Until now I see the part of story, I think the plot is tense, thus I steep myself in reading and emotion seems to rise and fall with exciting plot. Dr. Maxine Cassidy situation is so hard that she is determined to find the killer and starts an investigation of her own.

By and large, I think that there are still many spaces to make progress on my speed of reading as well as stamina. In addition, I didn't read it every day…. On the one hand, I must to do something important or urgent. On the others, it attributes to my laziness. Therefore, I should divide my time among what I ought to do and do the right thing at right. Hope to improve my progress!

The book I choose to read is "Forrest Gump." (1200 words)
It is a famous story that I have heard several times .
I thought it is a interesting story cause it seems won't happen in real life.
I never see the movie and only know that by little words,so I am glad to have this chance to read it in detail.
This book is a story about an idiot called Forrest Gump.Just because he doesn't as smart as other people,he experienced many things in an unusual way.
This book is in 12 chapters, every chapter describes an important period of his life .
At first I was a little afraid of reading it for it's all in English. But I soon got used to read it.It's really not difficult and very easy to comprehend.I was charmed by the story-he met a football coach and played a wonderful game, played harmonica with Jenny's band (but he didn't learn it before!).I wanna know what's going to happen to him.I am sure it will all be fun.

The book I choosed was The Count of Monte Cristo written Alexandre Dumas for my reading project. The reason that I choosed the book was that I was interested in the picture of the first page. There was a seaman with a smile.

I have read 50 pages of the book. The story was about Dantes Edmond,a seaman. He was a young seaman. He had good ability of leading other seamen and a beautiful girlfriend who was going to be his wife.As Edmond would hold a wedding.,two men was jealous of Edmond. So they use a bad way to let Edmond be sent to the jail.

I thought the book was a interesting . While it was not a happy sotry as far.But this is my first time to read an English novel I could choose.I thought that was why I didn't hate the book.

I normally read the novel at night .When I read ,my roommates were using the

computers. But thet didn't effect me.I didn't think I was very effective . I didn't pay all my attention on the book.Sometimes I talked with my roommates.

I thought this was not an easy job for me , in fact.Be honesty,I didn't have the habit of reading English novels. But I found it was not as difficult as I read at the beginning three days.So I would try to do well on my reading.
