In these two weeks I continued to read "Pride and Prejudice", and I finally finished it!

There are many characters in the story, and I often confuse someone with another. To tell apart their relationship, I surfed the Internet to Wikipedia, finding a picture of comprehensive web which is showing the relationships between the main characters in Pride and Prejudice. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Pride_and_Prejudice_Character_Map.png)

In the end of the story, Lady Catherine discovers Mr. Darcy's feelings for Elizabeth, which threaten her long cherished desire for him to marry her daughter, Anne de Bourgh. She pays Elizabeth an unannounced visit and brusquely tries to intimidate her into refusing such an engagement. Unfortunately for Lady Catherine, her visit only serves to confirm Elizabeth's intentions. Furthermore, Lady Catherine later visits Mr. Darcy, and relates the entire conversation to him — giving him the hope that if he proposes to Elizabeth again, she may accept him. After ensuring the rekindling of Mr. Bingley and Jane Bennet's relationship, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth become engaged.

After she was married, Mr. Bennet missed Elizabeth very much and visited whenever he could. Eventually, even Lady Catherine de Bourgh visited Pemberley, while the Gardiners, of course, were always welcome guests. Both Darcy and Elizabeth love them, for they had brought them together.

The most impressive sentence to me is "…she looked forward with delight to the time when they should be removed from society so little pleasing to either, to all the comfort and elegance of their family party at Perberley." ---extract from the last chapter. It vividly portrayed the happiness and a sense of satisfaction of Elizabeth, and I was deeply touched.

The book I want to read is "Pride and Prejudice," first published on 28 January 1813, is the most famous of Jane Austen's novels and one of the first "romantic comedies " in the history of the novel. The book is Jane Austen's second published novel. The reason I choose this book is that I want to read more classic of the world. And I choose the modern version which retold by Hilary Burningham, so I can read it and listen to CD.

Pride and Prejudice is a novel about the family Bennet with five daughters. Though they are not poor, they are certainly not rich, and the girls' choice of husband will decide how they live for the rest of their lives.

The second daughter, Elizabeth, the central character, refused the marry the first man proposed to her. She insisted that she will love and respect the man she marries. Mr. Darcy, who is tall, handsome and rich, was quite attracted to her. He found her both beautiful and intelligent.

There are two problems baffle them in the story: one is Elizabeth's pride: she thought him arrogant; another is Mr. Darcy's prejudice: her family was socially beneath his. --- I think that's why the book called "Pride and Prejudice."

The second story called "Thank you M'am",it was written by Langston Hughes,an African-American writer, who wrote books, poems, and short stories.
The story began in a dark night, about eleven o'clock,Mrs. Luella was walking alone, when a boy,Roger, ran up and tried to snatch her purse. But the woman gripped him and he lose his balance, felling on his back.Rather than calling the police,Mrs. Luella dragged him home. She talked to him, telling him that she was young once and she wanted things she could not get,and she have done things, too. After a silence, she went to fix something to eat. There are times that Roger can escape, but he didn't,he chooce sit on daybed where Mrs. Luella can easily see him out of the corner of her eye.He did not want to be mistrusted now. When they finished their eating,Mrs. Luella got up and gave him 10 dollars to buy himself some blue suede, she said,"Good night!Behave yourself, boy!"Roger wanted to say thank you.His lips moved, but he couldn't even say that till she shut the door.

How can kindness change a person's behavior? Mrs. Luella said she was young once and done things, too. That means her childhood have been similar to Roger's,and maybe she have experienced the same thing that happened to Roger,so she told Roger that he is "going to remember her",she knew how to affect his criminal activities, how to change him to a right direction toward life.By rewarding him but punishing.
And the little boy have trouble saying "thank you" at the end of the story,I think he has few occasion to use this phrase,he might always be alone,no one to talk to,no one to love. But this time,I think,he will realize that there is beautiful love in this world,it exists.

I think the book i choosed last week was to difficult for me,so i choose another one,
which is called "The Phantom of the Opera"
I started reading this book because there was a movie version of the Phantom of the Opera, and also a musical of it at the Broadway. It sounded interesting and attractive .
To tell the truth, I was rather confused by the story. Leroux had used first person tense in some parts of the story, as if he was there at the opera, trying to find out if the Opera Ghost really existed. Moreover, by weaving in the characters that actually existed in history into the story, Leroux made the story sound very realistic; however, it may not be a good thing to sound so realistic, because from time to time, I would have to think very hard about whether the Phantom of the Opera and this story had existed in reality, or just in one's imagination? All in all, I think I would rather choose to believe that the story is fictional, since it would be too awful if anything like this actually happened.
Most of the story's climaxes are at the middle of the book.I believe that Christine Daae loved the opera ghost, Erek, as much as she loved Raoul, the Vicomte de Chagny. I felt the opera ghost is a person that worth sympathy.Despites his overwhelmed talents, he is ugly-looking,so he can only live underneath the theatrer, lives a dark life that no one knows him. However, the end when he still let the person he loves so much to pursuit her true love is so touching and shows his capacious heart to sacrifice himself.

Amir described the childhood he had came through, the place he lived, his best friend and father. Amir was born in a extravagant house, but his friend Hassan in the shack. Hassan's father was the servant of Amir's father. Hassan and Amir grew together. There was a brotherhood between them had fed from the same nursing woman, a kinship that not even time could break. Hassan's father, Ali, had a miserable past. Hassan's mother, Sanaubar, ran off with a clan of traveling singers and dancers after giving birth to Hassan. She was a beautiful but notorious. Hassan never talked about his mother, as if she'd never existed.
After this chapter, I finally knew the main character named Amir, and the scene flashed into my mind, the true friendship they cherished.

Soon, I have started my second book named "Pride and Prejudice."The famous novel was written by Jane Austen who began her second novel, Pride and Prejudice, before she was twenty-one. In fact , interestingly ,it was originally titled First Impression because the novel was also concerned about the effects of the role's first impressions up others, that is their prejudice. Therefore, Austen found the title Pride and Prejudice more appropriate.
There are 20 chapters in this book , and the level of the book is 3000 words and 220 pages. I started at 3/12 and now (3/27)I have finished 11 chapters (page 112 ).
There were too many characters in this novel, and sometime I mixed with them! Mr. and Mrs. Bennet , Lydia. Catherine. Elizabeth…..,and so on! Although I have had read the Chinese contest and movie , I still thought that reading English novel was a great challenge to me. In the beginning , I felt frustrated .But . little by little , I was familiar with these complicated English names ,I found it interesting! Now . I kept reading it and I hoped that I could finished it quickly!

This week I have only read five chapters of my book – Charlotte's Web. The tests of Accounting, Calculus and history occupied most of my leisure time, so that I could hardly read it. During this two weeks, I have changed my way to read the book. Prior to two weeks, I consulted the dictionary as soon as I saw the word which I didn't understand. But I found that it wasn't fluent for me to read whole paragraph. Now, I mark the vocabularies by under line of them and consult the dictionary after every chapter.
The pig Wilbur in the book has a spider friend whose name is Charlotte. They talk every day and sometimes Charlotte show how she eat insects to Wilbur. There are lots of pleasant things happen in summary day in the farm which Wilbur and Charlotte live. For example , their friend ,a goose, have seven cute goslings. But one day, the old sheep told Wilbur a bad news that he was put on weight in order to be eat.
The story will develop splendidly and I look forward to the following chapters.

These two weeks, I have read 12 chapters of the book that I choose, Charlotte's Web. I found that the story was more and more interesting ! At the beginning, the girl in the story, Fern, bagged her father not to kill the pig which looks weak and small. So his father decieded to let Fern raise it. Fern was so happy and gave the pig a name Wilbur. She took care of Wilbur almost all the time. But Wilbur became bigger and bigger day by day. Besides, he ate more than before. Fern's house could not afford to keep raising Wilbur. Finally, they give Wilbur to Fern's uncle who had a big barn that Wilbur can live in.
After Wilbur getting there, he became met many animals, For example, the gander and the goose who always stammer, the rat called Templeton who liked collecting everythings, sheep and his best friend, Charlotte, who is a spider. Charlotte always can reassurance Wilbur when he felt lonely. One day, Wilbur heard that he will be killed when he grow up. He was so sad, but Charlotte told him she can let him not to killed.
She used her intelligence to save Wilbur's life. She wrote letters on her web to make Wilbur become the popular star so that people would not want to kill him.
I hadn't finish the book yet. It still has 3 chapters. But I feel I made progress than before! I can read English book faster. Two weeks ago, I only can read 7 chapters. But these two week, I read 12 chapters! I am so happy to see my progress!
I really want to konw the end of the story. I think I can finish this book in this week and go to find other interesting books.

This time , at the beginning , Oliver is being sent to be a apprentice(actually I think it's better use "forced" ) , but the consequence is the same as before , he still being treated as a slave , without free will and freedom , even worse , he can only eat meat which left by the dog , that's something what we can't imagine today . Do they know what human rights are ? Do they understand the value as a human being ? No , I don't think so. In that time , your life is being decided by a world we called "ascribe status" , it means everything depends on where you were born to , like Oliver , if he were not a orphan or were born in a rich family , he won't be what he like in this book , and he is not the only sufferer that time , those miserable than he are ever where . Through this , we could know the treasury of what we have , like human rights and free will , in modern society today and will always remember those who made efforts to pursuit what make us as a human being . I really appreciate that I am lucky enough to be a modern citizen and have better life today and won't forget it anymore .

This week I finished the book"Alice's Adventrue in Wonderland".
I forgot to introduce this book before so I wrote it this time.
This book was written by Lewis Carroll and the story is about a little girl Alice have a strange dream.
In this dream, she meet the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat,the Duchess, and the Queen of Hearts.
Alice follows the White Rabbit down a mysterious hole and lands in another world peopled with unforgettable characters and filled with fantastic adventures.

In fact, when I read in the middle of the book, I felt a little boring.
I think maybe the story is a little childish for a college student.
However, there are still some interesting plots.
For example, when the queen ask Alice to play the croguet, the croquet balls are live hedgehogs, the wooden hammers are live flamingoes, and the hoops consist of cards which can move.
How queer it is!
I admire that Lewis carroll can create such a imaginatve story.
If I had such a magical dream,I wouldn't want to wake up.
Althouth this book is about 2000~2500 words, there are still some words I don't know.
I tried to read it without dictionary but it's hard to understand the story.
And it made me feel impatient to look up the dictionary.
I think next time I would choose easier book to read.

I have finished "The Sorrows of Young Werther " .
Well,it is very difficult for me to read .As a result,I read slower and felt bored about its context.

The Sorrows of Young Werther is a collection of letters written by Werther, a young artist , sent to his friend Wilhelm.

In these letters, Werther gives a very intimate account of his stay in the a village of Wahlheim . He meets and falls in love with Lotte, a beautiful young girl who is already engaged to a man named Albert.

Although Werther is very sad, he still makes friends with both of them. His pain eventually becomes so great that he is forced to leave . While he returns to Wahlheim , where he is more sad than he was before, because Lotte and Albert are now married. Out of pity for Lotte's friend and respect for her husband, Lotte makes a decision that Werther should not visit her so frequently. Werther is very sad and had realized that one of them—Lotte, Albert, or Werther himself—had to die. Unable to hurt anyone else ,Werther has no choice but to kill himself .

It's not a happy ending.Afer finishing it,I am very sad.I thinkWerther is very stupid,he dosen't have to give up his life . I don't know how strong the power of love is,but I know how important the life is.
Next time I want to choose the books more more happier.

Now I have started my second book named "The Egypt Game."
It was written by Zilpha Keatley Snyder and published by Dell Yearling.
Besides, the book was three-time "Newbery Honor" winner.
"Newbery Honor" can be traced back to 1921,the first time it was given.
Because of an 18th publisher and seller of children's books in England named John

Therefore this is a nice book for children.
This book is not like my first reading book.
This is more difficult for me because there are many words that I'm not familiar with.
Especially this book has many proper noun about Egypt.
Moreover,the book has 215 pages.
I think it is a nice challenge for me and it can discipline my patience.
The book described two girls,April Hall and Melanie Ross.
Both of them like to play imaging games,so they start to play Egypt game.
But strange things begin happening.
Even though I haven't finished this book yet, I can also feel nervous now.
I will keep on reading it. Go!

I finished reading the book " Charlotte's Web" yesterday. The end of the story is so moving and warm-hearted that I cried. I admire the spider, Charlotte, for she sacrificed his life to safe her good friend, Wilber. Despite the fact that Charlotte was pregnant and she knew that she will be unable to act as well as usual after she made the eggs. The most impressing dialogue in the story"Why did you do all this for me? " Wilber asked. " I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you." "You have been my friend," replied Charlotte. "I wove my webs for you because I liked you." When I read the sentences above, my tear can't help but rolling down. And there are also some funny dialogue: "You would live longer" said the old sheep, "if you ate less. "Ha Ha Ha.
After Charlotte died, Wilber promised to take care of her children and let them know—their mother was brilliant, beautiful and loyal to the end.
I see the power between Wilber and Charlotte's friendship. I think none of the new spider ever quite took her place in Wilber's heart.

Jane Eyre is a famous story in the world.

I have read this book when I was a senior high student.

However, this is my first time read it written by English.

Jane Eyre loses the parents since childhood, hers aunt

adopted her. But she was treated abusively by her aunt

and cousin . Jane was sent to an orphanage after she has a big

quarrel with her cousin .After Jane graduate from the school,

she found the work of the private teacher in Edward Rochester's

house, where she fell in love with Edward Rochester. But there is

a big secret on Rochester

Until the wedding day, Jane knew the fact that Rochester was

already married. Rochester's wife was a psycho and was locked

in an attic. It was so shock to Jane. She felt sad and ran away

from Rochester.

Rochester's wife set the fire in the attic and was died by the fire.

In order to save his wife, Rochester broke his right hand and

was blinded. Afterward, Jane forgave Rochester and helped him

recovering. At last, they got married.

I find the true love in the novel, although there are much interference

between Rochester and Jane. I hope everyone can read this novel to feel

their true love.

I choose a book which is "Silas Marner". This book was written by George Eliot and published by Oxford university press. And it is a novel with 1400 headwords.
The story took place in a quiet, simple village of England in the early nineteenth century. In this village, life followed an unchanging pattern.
Silas Marner is a sad, lonely man. Because his miserable past, he didn't trust God and had no family, no friend except the bright gold coins that he earned for his weaving and kept hidden under the floorboards. He work hard everyday even on Sunday, when he should be in church. Every night he took the gold out and counted them again and again. Only the gold is his friend, his delight, his reason for living. Every villagers suspected that he was a friend of devil.
Squire's two sons whose name were Godfrey and Dunstan shared a secret. Godfrey was the person who was going to inherit all of Squire's property, but he had a secret marriage with a lowly woman(Molly) rather than the gentle lady(Nancy) that his father wanted him to marry. Dunstan knew this situation and threatened to tell Squire if his brother didn't give him money and it could make Squire disinherit Godfrey. Therefore, Godfrey had no choice but to let Dunstan sell his favorite horse. Unfortunately, the horse died by accident in the halfway and Dunstan did not fell miserable at all. On his way home, he passed Silas's cottage and Silas was not home. Dunstan entered the cottage and found the gold hidden under the floorboards. He was glad and took the gold away.
When Silas Marner returned his cottage and wanted to count his gold, he found them disappeared. It almost drove him to crazy. After that, he usually moaned to himself as he sat weaving.
But this disaster had one good result. Little by little, Silas's neighbors understood his past and realized it was wrong to be suspicious of him. They tried to be friendly to the poor, simple, harmless man, who needed their help. But Silas still make himself lonely.

In this two week I finished my first book "Frankenstein" which I have simply introduced last time. And I start to reading another book named "The Secret Garden". This time I would like to talk about what my feelings are after I read "Frankenstein". Next time when I finish "The Secret Garden", I will share something about it.

At the moment I finished reading the book, "Frankenstein", I really felt sorrowful and miserable about what are described in the novel. Victor Frankenstein is a young and intelligent scientist, who at beginning thought he found the secret of life and then created a "new man" by taking parts from dead people and piecing them together. But after Victor did finish his "work" and made it alive, he was filled with fear at what he had done and escaped from the creature he made. As a creator, just like a father or a leader to the creature, Victor didn't do any thing for it, except gave it life. I think that is an irresponsible behavior. The creature is like huge baby who need someone to give him love. He tried hard by himself to learn every thing to being a human and helped people if he could. But people hurt him again and again just because he looked frightening. I think it is very unfair to judge a man/woman just according how he/she looks. Although people always like beautiful things, the appearance can not represent what a man/woman is. The creature became very disappointed and began hating human especially his creator. Then he started to kill people in order to make his creator painful, but he also felt disheartening. Victor became more and more distressed when his beloved families and friend died, so he also hated the creature he made. In the end of the story, Victor and the creature who didn't have a name both paid much for those, and they died for it. I think if everyone could consider in others' place, then many things will not go so miserable. More than that maybe the world will be more wonderful.

The whole story is about the main character, Tom Ripley, who lives a boring life, goes to Italy by chance to find the other person, Dickie, and get him back to America. These weeks , I finished my first book ,called "Jane Eyre." The second book I choose was "Audrey Hepburn",and I have alredy finished it.
The title page of this book is the world-famous actress,Audrey Hepburn. Her slender figure and charming smile in this picture attracted me. This book is talking about the life story of Audrey.
Audrey loved dancing very much, and her mother cultivated her by finding the best dancing teacher for her and sending her to the most important ballet shool in London. One day ballet school told her : "I'm sorry ,but you'll never be a famous dancer. You're too tall." Audrey was sad ,but then something different happened. It changed her life......
Audrey started having some opportunities as an actress. Directors loved her happy face ,and one said,"a little sun is shining in her eyes." It's a really good description about Audrey. Then , Audrey made many famous movies, such as Roman Holiday,Breakfast at Tiffany's ,My Fair Lady, etc.
Audrey also had sad times, too. Her husband,Mel, was not happy wih her because Audrey was more famous than him and Mel was friendly with other wemen. Their marriage ended in divorce. But Audrey married again. Sad to say,it was not a good marriage, too.
When Audrey became older, she wanted to help poor and hungry children and started to work for United Nations. Audrey died in1993,but her movies still influence many people.

I haven't finished this book, but I almost have read half of it.
This book is talking about a gifted child named Matilda. This little girl is so gifted that she can read and cook by herself. And what's more, by the time she was 5, she had read all the children's books in the library!
Unfortunately, although Matilda is an extremely intelligent girl who has an innocent heart, her parents still don't care about her. They both think that reading is for sissies. And Mrs. Trunchbull, the school headmistress, is a woman with an ugly outlook and bad mind. She also doesn't like Matilda. The only person who realizes Matilda's talents is Matilda's teacher, Miss Honey. And she is also the only one who really loves Matilda.
I think it's really a pity that Matilda's parents have no idea that they have such an intelligent child. As parents, they should trust and pay more attention on their child. And I'm also glad that finally, Matilda found a person, Miss Honey, who really care about her!

I have to say sorry to this book, teacher, and myself, because I have skipped almost a week in these two weeks. (For some private reasons)

So far, I just have read one section.

Even though I didn't read much, I can feel what the author (Liz) felt in some unique times.

For instance, one day I was on my way home and read this book, and I cried because her heartbroken.

Liz wrote an email to David (her lover after her divorce)

She imagines he will ask she back to his arms and he will change.

However, the fact is cruel; he agrees with Liz that they have to say good-bye forever.

The paragraph is about Liz's reaction after seeing the email

"I sit there staring at the computer screen in silence for a long, sad time. It's all for the best, I know it is. I'm choosing happiness over suffering, I know I am. I am making space for the unknown future to fill up my life with yet-to-come surprises. I know all this. But still… "

I can understand this kind of dilemma. I think only time can smooth the hurt.

I just broke up with my boyfriend last year. Sometimes I feel upset, depressed, and not knowing what to do. I know my decision is right, but I still cannot bear the loneliness.

"…… Beauty attracts beauty" he wrote this back to Liz.

And another funny thing is every city has a single word that defines it.

A friend of Liz's says that Rome's word is SEX, and Liz thinks the word of New York is ACHIEVE.

I think the word of Taiwan is SETTLE DOWN. And I also wonder about my own word, I cannot find an extremely word for myself. Maybe it's dilemma, I think.

Wish you can find your own word. =)

Last week I listened the speech "I have a dream".

Btw, I have finished "the bluest eye" last week. (Because I took the class "novels in English" ) I enjoy learning English.

That's all for my reading journal.

I have read the book "American Short Stories In Special English" for some days. There were lots of stories, but one of them touched my heart deeply. The tale was about a pregnant mother Olive helping their cow to have a baby. It was her husband's job, and he told her to stay at home instead in the barn. Nate was afraid that his wife would be scared when seeing new calf's born. When it happend, Nate could do nothing about the cow, because he didn't have any experience. Olive scared at first, but soon she became calmly, and controlled all the situation. How bravely Olive was! She was fearless to the calf, maybe it was due to the natural duty. Mothers seemed to have the power that can protect their baby very well and safely than Father. And even if how weakness they were first, then they all would be storng enough to face the trouble for their children.

From the story, I learned that we can do many things than we expected before, just to make our mind and do the best for ourselves.

Yesterday I finished my third English book, called "Oliver Twist."
The book is written by Charles Dickens, and retold by Margaret Tarner.
It is at intermediate level with about 1,600 words.
The story begins with a poor little boy, called Oliver Twist. Oliver Twist is an orphan who lives in a workhouse in 19th-century England. After being mistreated by the family that has taken him in, Oliver runs away to London. There, he meets a shoplifter and lives with many young boys who are trained to pick pockets and steal food. Oliver learns how to steal, but on his first mission, he cannot bring himself to do so. The police catch him for a crime he did not commit until the crime victim, Mr. Brownlow, comes to his defense. Mr. Brownlow takes him under his care in his beautiful house. This is where Oliver gradually discovers his identity.

Oliver is an innocent child. And I think it is because his innocence that made he received a lot of help. No matter how much he is mistreated, he remains sensitive, kind, loyal, and gentle. He believes that people are good by nature and refuses to commit crimes. His charms draw the attention of several wealthy benefactors.
At first I did not pay much attention to the author, but then I searched the name on the Internet curiously. I was surprised that the Dickens is the famous England's literary author. One of his household writing is called "A Tale of Two Cities." And I also found out that the story is adapted to a movie in 2005. Never will I image that the ordinary book I read is a world famous story. It seems that reading English book can not only improve my English but also broaden my eyes.

The second book I choose this time is "David Copperfield". There are 96 pages in this book. The level of the book was 1200 words, which is higher than last book I chose. The author of this book is Charles Dickens, who is one of the most popular writers of all time. He began writing "David Copperfield" in 1849, and the book was retold by Nigel Grimshaw. Dickens had his first success as a writer with "The Pickwick Papers". By the age of twenty-four he was already famous, and he stayed famous until he died. He wrote different kinds of books, fiction and nonfiction, such as "Oliver twist", "Nicholas Nickleby" and "Christmas Carol".

The story is about David Copperfield. When he was born, his father had died. His mother and he were interdependent, but they had a loyal servant, Peggotty. The years went past and David Copperfield reached the age of six. His happy life suddenly changes when his mother married again. Her new husband, Mr.Murdstone, was cruel to him and sent him away to school at Salem House. The headmaster of that school was very evil, but he had a good friend, Mr. Steerfourth. After later, her mother passed away too. His stepfather hated David, and sent him to work in London.

I have not finished it yet, but I have already finished reading chapter seven. This book is very fascinating, so let me can't help reading. David Copperfield`s life was hard, but he didn`t give up. The spirit is worth studying. I can not wait to see the ending.

These days I finish the book 'Tales from Shakespeare.' I read 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Macbeth' and 'Twelfth Night, or What You Will' three plays.
The following is the introduction about the plays which I think it's really famous. The Merchant of Venice is talking about Antonio, a young merchant of Venice, who wants to help his friend, Bassanio to get married with Portia. However, he didn't have enough money to lend his friend so that he borrows money from Shylock, a Jew, a moneylender who also lives in Venice. Antonio sign a contract with Shylock that if he can't repay the money by a certain day, he would lose a pound of flesh, to be cut off from any part of his body that Shylock pleased. To the date, Antonio really can't repay the money due to his boat was lost. At that moment, Bassanio already recognize Portia. When he get the information, he go to help his friend. Besides, Portia, a wise and beautiful lady, also disguises herself as a lawyer to help Antonio. In the court, wise Portia says 'the paper gives you no drop of blood; the words are: 'a pound of flesh.''
However, how could we cut off a pound of flesh without some blood falling? Therefore, the court releases Antonio. After the event, Bassanio get married with Portia.
After finishing the book, Shakespeare is really a great master of plays. Why I say the words? For example, he uses the words 'They were both born in the same hour, and in another hour they were both in danger of death, for they were shipwrecked on the coast if Illyria as they were making a journey together.' to introduce the main characters are twins and make an opening for the stories in 'Twelfth Night, or What You Will.' Thanks for this free reading that I can know about the Shakespeare's plays.

The surging Chinese economy has created uncertainty, fear ,and even anger about unfair competiton. It has also become a major political issue as middle-
class manufacturing jobs are being transferred overseas. The image of China as the beast of far east is well entrenched. But that doesn't necessarily mean
the reality matches the popular perception. So ,is China really the economic steamroller we think it is?
Even more important, could we really live without Chinese goods ?
That is the question asked by author in her book.
So, what is the truth about China? The economic data are not as clear as the press would have we believe. Beginning in the eraly 1980s and accelerating in
the 1990s the Chinese government stopped centrally controlling its economy . China began opening up its markets, and the flood of foreign investment
into the country led to an enormous growth surge in the economy.By the end of 2006, China had one of the five largest economies in the world , and by one
measure, called purchasing power parity , it was second only to the America.

Continued from the preceding reading journal, the plot's development is getting more exciting and extremely complicated. The major character— Dr. Maxine and the detective who undertake this murder— Grabowski together try to find the truth of this unsettled case.

The key of the murderer seems to revolve around Maxine's friends, colleagues, and workmates. After Maxine is attacked by the killer who thinks she knows too much several times, she begins to wonder which of her medical colleagues she can trust and both the detective and she investigate possible links between the clues they gather from patient, surgeon, and researcher.
Finally, with lots of obstructions and a painstaking investigation, they find out the murderer— Maxine's colleague and put her in jail.

The story's denouement is so exciting and unexpected that I never think of. Only to read it all along can I realize the interest and the surprising upshot from this book.
In order to improve my reading speed and quantity, I do have dogged determination to achieve this goal and first have perseverance to do so! Even though I still have few days lazy…, I'll try my best to cure me of the bad habit.

Much to my delight, I finish this book on Monday. And I begin to read another one— "James and the Giant Peach." Hope I can read it more effectively than before.

Recently, I have had finished reading two novels.

The one was "Oliver Twist", last time I had not finished yet, the other one was "The Black Pearl".

The end of "Oliver Twist" was happy.
The boy of the story was safe and knew about everything.
And surprisingly, Monks was his borther.
However, because of his evil behavior, he was sent to jail finally.
Then Oliver Twist became Mr.Brownlow's son-in-law.
In sum, I think it was a happy ending.

Another story, The Black Pearl, was a sad story.
It was about a girl, Isobel, always felt a spirit following her in her travel in Korea.
She felt very confused, so she tried to find out the answer.
Finally, she understood.

Long time ago, there was a Korean woman loved her father very much.
But her father did not feel her love, he married another woman.
And Isobel was their daughter.
The woman was so sad that she decided to end her life.
So, her spirit followed Isobel, she wanted Isobel went death too.

Finally, Isobel found the method to throw away the spirit.
I think it was not only sad but scaring story.
Although I finished reading two books, I think I should read more and more.
Because these novel were easy to reading.
I hope I can read at least two books such these in a week.
And reading time will more and more.

I read the book which was named "BABE THE SHEEP-PIG."
The writer was DICK KING-SMITH.
The book retold by CHRIS GRANT-BEAR.
It was published by PENGUIN READERS.
The book was adapted for the screen as 1995 film "BABE ,"which was also named "我不笨,所以我有話要說 " in Chinese.
The film won the Academy Award for Visual Effects.

Because I still had an accounting test on March 20, I delayed many days for preparing the test.
I will continue my reading plan every day.

The book was told about a young pig in a farm, which has recognized a female sheepdog as his mother.
He became from an ordinary young pig to a sheep pig's story.
Finally, he also replaced the sheepdog to participate sheepdog game and got the perfect score to win the champion.

After reading the book, I think that communication is very important.
Handling everything with other people can't use the mandatory and violent way.
We have to communicate with them and let them receive our solution.

It is not a good ending to me.Maybe in others' opinion it is another good ending to Gump, but Istill hope he can get married with Jenny. They are meant to each other, they are both in love with each other deeply. The every time Gump searched for her.In his heart, she takes an important state.
This book only uses 1200 words,so the contents are very easy and too easy that I can't know more details. But I want to know more!!!So I think I have to choose a book which is more difficult and can contains more .
From this book I realize that Gump tried to do every thing right, he is not stupid at all.And the mind is more important than the inteligent.

Perceptions: Watch Your Weight, Sure, but Don’t Worry About It

By NICHOLAS BAKALAR

Worrying about weighing too much may be bad for you, no matter how much you actually weigh.
Using results from a telephone health survey run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, researchers analyzed data on more than 170,000 men and women nationwide. Among other information about health and lifestyle, all reported height and weight, how much they would like to weigh and how many days in the past month they had felt physically or mentally unhealthy.

大一英文C組報告文章--36 Hours in Nairobi, Kenya

Our Topic: 36 Hours in Nairobi, Kenya

Published: March 18, 2007

NAIROBI has always been a place in between. It started out as a pit stop on the Kampala-Mombasa railway, and today many tourists look at it the same way: a place to stop for the night, resupply and then leave at first light for a safari or jaunt to the beach. But the city, Kenya’s capital, is emerging as a destination in itself. It has great restaurants, endless shopping, classy colonial-era hotels and plenty of wildlife within the city limits. You can play with baby elephants and hang out with giraffes and then dine on all the ostrich and crocodile you can eat. It’s a thoroughly African city with a whiff of the old English era. True, Nairobi gets a bad rap for crime, but if you avoid cruising around late at night and keep a careful eye on your stuff, you shouldn’t have any problems. Many first-time visitors say they are surprised by how comfortable they feel in the city.

The book I chose is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (A horror classic),which is originally told by Gaston Leroux, and retold by Pauline Francis. The reason that I chose this book is because my English teacher in high school appointed us to read, but I didn't finish it.So,by this chance,I want to finish it begin the reading journal in easier way,and step by step reading higher level.
Let me introduce some information about this book. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA was written in 1909. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is spine chilling and full of drama, just loke a real opera. The phantom lives beneath the Paris Opera House Where he becomes obsesses with a young singer Christine. As he enchants her more and more with his music,he begins to wonder wether he really is a phantom…
About Gaston Leroux,he was born in 1868 in Paris. After studing law,he inherited a million francs,so he had to work for a living, and started to write. He became well known for the Mystery of the Yellow Room, and two years later,he wrote THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
These above are just a general concept about this book.Although I have already known the content roughly,I consider if I finish this book,I will make more confidence in English.Just expect~!

The book I chose is called "Emergency Murder", written by Janet McGiffin. After I saw the synopsis about this book on the back cover, this arouses my interest and curiosity and wants to reveal the rear murder to clear the protagonist of murder charge.

The story's background is that when the wife of a well-known surgeon dies suddenly in the emergency room, Dr. Maxine Cassidy suspects murder. The police agree but sarcastically– they suspect her! I have only read this part so far and I expect the follow-up development so much that I strain at the leash to read.

Until now I see the part of story, I think the plot is tense, thus I steep myself in reading and emotion seems to rise and fall with exciting plot. Dr. Maxine Cassidy situation is so hard that she is determined to find the killer and starts an investigation of her own.

By and large, I think that there are still many spaces to make progress on my speed of reading as well as stamina. In addition, I didn't read it every day…. On the one hand, I must to do something important or urgent. On the others, it attributes to my laziness. Therefore, I should divide my time among what I ought to do and do the right thing at right. Hope to improve my progress!

This book is a story about an idiot called Forrest Gump.Just because he doesn't as smart as other people,he experienced many things in an unusual way.
This book is in 12 chapters, every chapter describes an important period of his life .
At first I was a little afraid of reading it for it's all in English. But I soon got used to read it.It's really not difficult and very easy to comprehend.I was charmed by the story-he met a football coach and played a wonderful game, played harmonica with Jenny's band (but he didn't learn it before!).I wanna know what's going to happen to him.I am sure it will all be fun.

I have read 50 pages of the book. The story was about Dantes Edmond,a seaman. He was a young seaman. He had good ability of leading other seamen and a beautiful girlfriend who was going to be his wife.As Edmond would hold a wedding.,two men was jealous of Edmond. So they use a bad way to let Edmond be sent to the jail.

I thought the book was a interesting . While it was not a happy sotry as far.But this is my first time to read an English novel I could choose.I thought that was why I didn't hate the book.

I normally read the novel at night .When I read ,my roommates were using the
